Should I attempt replacing regular kitchen lights with can lights. I've installed regular lights before?
and done simple electrical-I have a vaulted ceilings, don't know if that matters. Each light fixture takes 2- 60 watt bulbs right now. I think can lights would give me a brighter result than incandescent.

- If your anygood with a jigsaw its basically the same just need to cut a hole and mount solidly.
- You can do it but. some lights can have insulation around them and some can`t. Maker sure you ask witch on to use.
- If you just want brighter light you can use 23W. CFL, (100W equivalent), lamps in your existing fixtures. Trying to install recessed 'cans` in an existing ceiling is possible, but a bear of a job, and 'cans` are a lot less efficient in spreading light than surface fixtures.
- Well vaulted ceilings may be a problem. If you are unable to get above the drywall to see what you are doing, Juno makes a recessed remodel housing that allows you to basically wire up to the old lights a put the new light in a 6" hole in the ceiling. (of course it's never that simple, but you get the picture) Keep in mind that if you buy Juno, you will want the fixtures that are IC rated, which means they can come into contact with insulation. No matter which remodel fixture you buy, you will probably need to have something that is rated for insulation. If your ceiling is sloped, you may still be able to put in these same lights, but you need to look at the job closely. Take your time, and do it right....and good luck! BTW, with can lights you can buy some trims that are reflective and will give you MUCH more light that you wanted, but you can put them on a dimmer switch to set them to your desire also.
- I have 2 recessed lights, they look nice but actually have less light than the surface lights had.
