Kitchen Ideas Faqs

Kitchen lights keep going on & off and now have gone off completly! Any ideas why?

I have a nice set of main lights (4 mini lights) in centre of ceiling that went off for two days i.e switch dont turn them on. Then worked for couple of days... then didnt..then did... now off completly for last 2 weeks. Some one said it could be transformer & will need full new light set. Any ideas whats up with them & how i might fix them?

  1. stop leaning on the switch
  2. maybe a cross wire, loose wire or dicky light fitting.
  3. Have you checked the wiring on the switch that operates the lights? The transformer is a possible , maybe overheating , in the UK they cost no money , might be worth changing it anyway . Make sure the power is off while you conduct these checks , don't do the shake the wire routine its very dangerous if you find the fault in your hand.
  4. if it was a transformer other lights and appliances would be affected check the fuse panel, light switch itself for loose wires and the fixture
  5. Maybe changing your lights might fix the problem.
  6. I once had a similar problem in my master bedroom. I called in an electrician who found the problem in the outdoor fuse box next to the electric meter. Ultimately, he replaced the box because it was undersized for my home. I'm not saying this is YOUR problem - it's just another possibility.
  7. have a professial[electrican] check your wiring system and they can also locate the problem for you,
  8. if it is florecent light then you need a starter
  9. Maybe short circuit, best get the electrician in.
  10. poltergeist. look in yellow pages under exorcists
  11. It's only possible to be a transformer problem if they are 12v lights. It sounds very much like a loose wire. Turn power off, check the wires connect firmly at the lightswitch and the wires above the ceiling where they enter the light fitting (or transformer). Take the fried transformer (if it is that) with you to buy a replacement . An electrical wholesaler will sell them. A set of lights may be cheaper though.
