Is pendant lighting (the kind that you usually see over kitchen bars) okay over the dining room table?

Perhaps I am not looking in the right places, but I haven't seen many examples on the Internet. Would be great to get opinions!

1. well, that is how i've always seen it, so, yes. also, you'd want the fixture to be bigger or in scale with the table, you know, so it doesn't look too big or too tiny.
2. yes, but because they focus the light down to a spot, and generally take up little space, you would need several pendants to provide enough light and look pleasing
3. Certainly. Some friends of mine have three mini-pendants over their dining table, in fact.

6. Hi, try this. Go into Google or Yahoo image search. Key in pendant lighting or whatever you think best describes the item you're looking for. Voila, you now have thousands of photographs to choose from. Most images link to a website for more information and or links to where you can buy from.
