I have a five foot tube light in my kitchen that wont come on?
My kitchen light is one of those long five foot lights that normally take a few seconds to come on when u press the switch, Well ours seemed to take ages to come on if at all so we replaced the bulb and it was ok for a couple of weeks but tonight it just wont come on, the ends light up but not the whole thing, does anyone know why this may be? or what we should do? we cant afford an electrician.

- It probably is the starter which is a little box at the end of tube. You can get them from DIY shop. You could consider changing the light fitting to a more up to date one
- The same thing happened to me! My dad fixed it, the fitting has a little starter cylinder thing, looks a bit like a battery, replace that and hopefully it should work!
- it could be the starter motor playing up if you have another tube light in the house or you know someone who has take tha starter out it will look like a smaal white tube sticking out somewhere you just push and twist. if this solves it get a new one from any hardware shop. hope you get it sorted
- I agree with the above... it's the starter. You can get them at any DIY shop, but they do come in different sizes (for smaller or larger tubes). They are real easy to change once you remove the tube.
- I use to have one of those. May have brought a bad bulb. When I replaced one I had to replace all of them. If that does not work you have a loose connection.
- give a turn to the fluorescent tube, sometimes they come off the contact, also if you have a cold place it might take a while before the light will come on, if this doesn't work you might need a new ballast.
- Change the starter.
- you could change the ballest ( found in the center, under the cover)
- Always buy a starter with a new tube. You prob have a dead starter which must be replaced to get your light on. The process of fitting it is easyand just the same for instaling it. Good luck. shy guy
