My mother and I have never really done any remodeling before, so I need some tips, like what to do first, and things like that. Can any painters out there give me some tips on repainting kitchen cabinets? My cabinets are painted semi gloss white. The dog has chewed on some of the corners and the original paint is wearing thin in some places. I want to paint cabinets with a high gloss white. Do I need to sand them before painting or just prime them? I know to sand the dog chewed areas but I was unsure if I needed to prime the entire cabinets since they are already painted. Any tips any painters could give me would be sooo appreciated! I want to start this project next week! Thanks!
What are your best tips for in the kitchen? I know of two great ones: 1) Peeling garlic - hit it hard with the blunt side of the knife so the peel comes off easily 2) Boiled eggs - wait till they cool and then keep hitting the egg (against the kitchen counter) all over so the shell has many tiny cracks all over. This is an easy way to peel it. Can you add to my list?

I need some designing tips on a new kitchen.? We are currently renovating our home with the major renovation being the kitchen. We chose maple cabinets with a coffee glaze and would like wood floors. I have not picked out countertops, I am very confused. Is there any rule as to what color counter tops and floors should be? Should I go light on the floors and counters, a dark color, a mixture? All the kitchens I see in the magazines look so well blended. I don't want to spend all this money and do a designer mess up. Any input will help ease my confusion.
Kitchen Secrets and Tips? What are some of your best kept kitchen secrets and tips? Some of mine included: 1. I keep a small bucket under my sink and put all of my dirty wash rags and towels in it until laundry day. 2. I put an odor absorber next to my trash can. 3. I wet my hands before spreading out my rice crispy treats, and they never stick.
Can anyone share any tips for using a kitchen mandolin? I got one from Pampered Chef last year, and have only used the cheese grater part. What else should I be using it for? I'm sure it's really handy... I just need to get into the habit of using it more. What do you use yours for? How do you shred lettuce or cabbage? I have a flat blade, a ripple blade, a cheese shredder blade... and one other one that I can't remember. Which blade, how do you do it? Thanks~
besides convenience foods, what are some tips to help me save time in the kitchen? I would like to know your ideas on preparing or partially preparing foods ahead of time on the weekends so that during the busy work week, all I need to do would be to throw the ingredients together and pop in the oven, heat in the microwave, etc. I have limited freezer space, so preparing a whole meal and storing it in the freezer isn't really an option. For instance, sometimes I will cook whole chickens on the weekend and cut up the meat and put it in freezer bags, so that I can just add the already cooked meat to a recipe. Anyone have any other tips to share?

What is one of your best kitchen tips? One tip I really live by is ALWAYS keep saran wrap in the freezer, it peels off everytime you reach for it and you never have to fight the plastic wrap to unroll it. Another tip I have is for making ice cubes - Save plastic foam egg cartons. By cutting off the top cover and placing it under the bottom half of the carton, you can completely fill the egg cups without worrying about spillage in the freezer. A slight upward push on the bottom of each cup ensures easy removal of the cubes. These disposable trays can be used two or three times before becoming floppy. What is one of your household or kitchen tips that may not commonly be known?
What are your favorite cooking tips or tricks? Please share your most favorite tips or tricks that works in the kitchen. Whether it is how to store a food without it going bad, or how to cut something difficult or most anything else, please share your best kitchen tips and tricks.
Any tips on installing a new range hood in kitchen.? There is an old one there which will be remove. I would like to keep the same vent pipe and hopefully replace it with something very similar. It has a fan and light. Any advice on removing the old one, also once I do that, what would be the steps in installing the new one. Would really appreciate any advice.
What is your favorite cooking or kitchen tip? Want to share? Mine are: If you over-salt soup or stew, put a whole, raw, peeled potato in while the soup or stew simmers. It will absorb some of the salt. And, If you want to get candle wax out of a decorative glass container, put it in the freezer for an hour or two. The wax will slide right out. I have tried these, and they really work. What are your favorites?
What is your favorite Reusing, Recycling and/or Reinventing Kitchen TIP? Hopefully we get lots of great answers so we can all benefit! If you think of more, come back and edit your answer! Reuse: A 5 pound bag of flour or sugar fits perfectly in a 1 gallon plastic ice cream bucket! Recycle: The 1/2 cup of crumbs that usually settle in the bottom of a cereal box (or bag) makes a yummy ice cream topping! Reinvent: A paper plate cut in half and rolled into a cone with the point cut off makes a great funnel for dry ingredients!
